We are so blessed by our church family to be on Sabbatical in Greece this week. Bill, my husband, and I are having such a rich time taking in the sites of this ancient country. We are doing a study inspired by the missionary journeys of Paul the Apostle. Our goal is to reread, discuss all of Paul’s epistles during the sabbatical, especially the ones he wrote to the places we visit.
I love how Paul starts this letter… “To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from Our God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father.”
Paul came into a foreign place to share a very foreign concept to the Greeks. His message was the true God wasn’t found in a statue but in a person. Jesus the Son of God, who was crucified, buried and rose again on the third day…. “The Thessalonians turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God and to wait for His Son from Heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”
(I Thessalonians 1:9-10)
Praise God for sending His Son so all the world could know Him if they believe!
Just Jesus,
Sheri
