Hold My Hand

I remember so many things my kids and my nieces and nephews said. They are funny little quips that fit the moment. When Our nephew Dillon was a toddler, he was so creative, smart, and funny. When he wanted to hold your hand he would say (with a funny little British accent that we don’t know where it came from), “Holda my brand new hand.” My husband and I still say that to this day when we reach for each other’s hand. I love these little sayings that are unique to my family and my life. They are a type of bonding and belonging that makes us feel loved and part of a long life story. It is a personal history that includes people and relationships you build a life on and cherish.

When I get up in the morning I have a routine, as most people do. I spend time with the Lord praying and reading his word, drinking coffee, and planning my day. I read emails, and check my financials, check the news (it is at this point I often hit a wall). I become overwhelmed with the “what ifs” of our world. In case you haven’t been checking, it’s a battleground out there. I started going down the road of getting my family prepared if things go to pieces. Do I have enough bottled water; do we have food stocked away; is my generator big enough; where are our flashlights and, more importantly, I’m sure I don’t have batteries!!!!

After a slight panic attack, I gather myself and open my Bible again. I am hit with these words …” I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.” ( Psalm 73:23) … and there it is, God will “holda my brand new hand!” A calm relief washes over my soul and I know no matter what the days bring, God is holding my hand. I will not be overwhelmed by the evil running rampant through our world. Verses 24 and 25 of this Psalm say, “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire but you.”

There it is friends! Jesus takes our battered souls and minds and makes us new every day. With Jesus, we are a brand new creation through His grace and mercy. Join me to live day by day with Jesus holding your brand new hand.

Just Jesus,

    1. “Holda my brand new hand.” Wow, Sheri! What a beautiful inspiring message. When I was a child I was taught to “Hold to God’s unchanging hand.” But Dillion had it right. It is God’s hand that holds us! You are a true master of word processing. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. Dad
