It seems ironic that as we begin the hectic month of December I am reminded this morning that Jesus is the Prince of Peace! In a month that can seem filled with everything but peace, the irony is not lost on me! I almost laughed when I started reading my devotion because I got up early to try to do a million things to get caught up.
We decided to start our fireplace renovation a couple of days ago. As I am trying to get things ready for Christmas, I’m moving tubs of decorations in from the garage while Bill is moving tubs of old tile and sheetrock out! Don’t get me wrong … I am not innocent in this, as I initiated the project. So, as the dust settles, the presents that need wrapping pile higher; the electrician comes at 10:00 a.m.; the grandchildren are on their way over to spend the night; and Christmas decorations are strewn about! I feel anything but peace as I look out over my house.
I am delighted I got up early today, not because I am getting things done, but because I am reminded in John 20:19-21, that Jesus encourages His frantic disciples, as He suddenly joins them in the locked room, with the simple but powerful words, “Peace be with you.” He wasn’t referring to peace as in ‘calm and restful,’ He was actually referring to Himself! He is our Peace.
He is the source of my peace today as I proceed into the mess, the clutter, the disjointed flow of my living space, and everything else that is out of control in this crazy world. I can rest in knowing that all is well with my soul. In His presence I have peace. He is my Peace.
“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
I find my peace in Jesus and will find the path through the clutter to walk in His peace.
Merry Christmas!
