There are Things in Life

IMG_3302

School has started back for most.  I don’t like back to school time. I used to say to my dad, “I don’t want to go to school.”  He would say to me, “Well Sheri, there are things in life you have to do, ought to do and want to do.”  I, in turn, told my kids the same thing as they were growing up.  They would start down that road… “I don’t want to…” I would say, “Well kids, there are things in life…” they would stop me and say, “we know, things in life we have to do, ought to do and want to do.”  I would smile.

I wanted to share a little encouragement to those of you who are going back to school; to parents and grandparents who might need a good word today.

Speak strength and truth into your kids lives every day

Something like this….

You are loved by God.

I love you and your family loves you.

You are created special in the image of God.

Nothing can separate you from the love of God.

Remember I will be praying for you today.

I am thinking of you too.

You are such an important member of our family.

I am proud of you and who you are becoming.

God has blessed you with so many talents.

Try something new today- I know you can be brave.

You are a good problem solver- try and keep trying…you can do it.

Sometimes it doesn’t work the first try but don’t give up.

You are the kind of friend I would like to have had when I was your age.

You can pray anywhere and anytime about anything- Jesus cares.

Try yes instead of no.

I love to hear you laugh.

You are so loved.

I pray for you and think of you while you are at school.

You are brave.

I’m proud of you.

Make a choice to rejoice.

I believe you can handle this day.

Be salt and light in the dark world.

Few people lead…be the few!

Stand up for what’s right even if you’re standing alone.

Treats others the way you want to be treated.

Be kind to one another.

Be a friend to the one who has no friends.

If someone is alone, go stand beside them and say Hi.

Always tell the truth.

There is nothing you could ever do to make me stop loving you.

You can tell me anything- I will listen.

Be forgiving to others.

Tell your friends Jesus loves them.

Ask others for forgiveness if you hurt them.

Be friendly.

Be respectful to your teachers.

Smile…it tells other people you care.

When you feel sadness tell it to take a break then tell your brain to make a choice for Joy.

I love it when you smile.

Make a choice to do it.

I know you can do this!

These are a few verses to encourage you and your children in their day

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you, in fact, are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8

“I will lift my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32:8

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” Psalm 31:24

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.” Romans 15:5

“Treat others the way you want to be treated.” Luke 6:31

“Jesus said, I the way, the truth, the life and no one comes to the Father except by Me.”  John 14:6

*I love what Priscilla Shirer says to her sons before she takes them to school.

“You are a man of integrity and character. You will love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength. You will be a blessing to your teachers and a blessing to your friends. You are the head and not the tail. You are above and not beneath. You are a leader and not a follower.  You are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
You are a man of valor. You have the whole armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.
You will bless the Lord at all times and His praises shall continually be in your mouth.”

I pray this will be a daily blessing to you and to your children.  Speak these truths to your kids- maybe you can put one thought in each lunchbox. Don’t forget to read a Bible story to your children each morning or night. Help them to understand the gospel of Jesus Christ and what that means to our lives. Pray with them daily so they will see and understand the world from Jesus.  Speak to them daily and openly about how Jesus is the answer to every question they have. They will be pounded with world truth 5 days a week for 7 hours a day so your daily input of Jesus into their lives is their lifeline.

Just Jesus,

Sheri Langley
