The Front Edge Of Summer

IMG_4361

It’s my favorite time of the year…. the front edge of summer.  It’s when all the fun is straight in front of us, waiting for us to jump in.  Its when things are wrapping up for the school year and people are eager to get out in the sun.  The whole glorious summer is ahead. It’s vacation time! The kids (and parents) across America are eager for the mornings of sleeping-in, snowcones, sunshine, swimming, and our favorite summer songs. Let’s buy new sunscreen, sunglasses, and sandals…I’ll meet you by the pool.

Standing on my porch I look out onto the massive trees with brilliant green leaves that flow from one tree to the next.  Kentucky is the best in giving lifelong trees that grow up big and strong. They seem to have a life of their own as they sway in all their glory with slits of sunlight allowed to pass through.  As I sit on the porch drinking my coffee, I hear the rustling of wind pass through one tree then onto the next, as if, telling a story of what they think the summer of 2019 might be like.

Oh, it’s going to be a good one, they say!  I see them wave at me, welcoming me back from the long wet winter and spring. I raise my coffee mug and cheer them as we usher in summer together. They reassure me they will be right here for me without fail to provide me fresh air, shade, and inspiration.  I am always amazed at how their beauty moves me.  It is a weekend for planting more flowers and landscaping to our beautiful house.  Hello roses, wisteria and begonias, I’ve missed you!

“Let heaven celebrate! Let the earth rejoice!  Let the sea and everything in it roar!  Let the countryside and everything in it celebrate!  Then all the trees of the forest too will shout out joyfully. “  Psalm 96:11-12

I am celebrating summer today on this last day of May.  Join in with me and rejoice in the warm sunny days God provides to feed our thirsty souls. I am celebrating Jesus who is the reason the earth works in the wondrous way it does…clearly remarkable.  I’m thankful for another year being able to stand strong in the midst of the cold wind and rain of winter. I feel blessed to come through on the other side yielding fruit without withering leaves.  I desire to prosper in growth and in my love for the Lord.  I pray for strong roots that are deep like a tree planted by streams of water.    (Psalm 1:2-3)

Indeed, it’s going to be a good summer!
